Members will cultivate community gardens at schools and community centers in food desert neighborhoods throughout Shreveport. They will engage children ages 7-11 in nutrition education and hands-on activities in the gardens and will distribute the harvested produce from the gardens to the children and their families to alleviate food insecurity. Additionally, ShreveCorps members will particpate on Shreveport Green's Urban Farm, a hunger and poverty alleviation program established by Shreveport Green as part of a $24 million Choice Neighborhoods grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to the City of Shreveport.
