Pec Service Learning
Parishes Served: St. Tammany6th, 7th and 8th Grade Agriculture students will raise chickens and donate eggs and chickens to low-income families in the Bush and Sun communities. 6th, 7th and 8th Grade Family and Consumer Science students will research recipes that use eggs, prepare dishes using the recipes, evaluate the recipes, and then make a PECK Service Learning Recipe Book. The Project will use 70 hens as part of its in-kind match. Eggs collected from these chickens will be used three ways. First, some will be placed in the Agriculture Departments incubators and hatched. Some of the chicks will be raised to provide eggs for the project. Other chicks will be raise for about four months and given to low-income families from the Bush and Sun communities. Second, eggs will be given to low-income families in the Bush and Sun communities. Third, other eggs will be used by the Family and Consumer Science students to test egg recipes.
