Students will engage in activities that will develop reading, writing, critical thinking, communication and problem solving skills. Together, addressing these skills can have a marked impact on both reading comprehension and writing skills. Activities will address both academic needs and real life situations. The local university will partner directly with the Literacy Council and Oak Park Middle School to implement the program. Volunteers will be recruited from the
Master of Arts in Alternative Teaching program. They will work with Oak Park students to help them implement three components of the program: tutoring, academic activity nights and the demonstration / celebration.
