More volunteers are needed to rebuild Louisiana
On August 29th, 2005 the greatest national disaster in American history occurred. Hurricane Katrina hit southeast Louisiana, severely damaging a broad area of the southeast region of the state, including New Orleans. Families were torn apart, homes and lives lost. Just three weeks later, Hurricane Rita hit the southwest area of the state. The hurricanes and the subsequent flooding were disasters of epic proportions. The cost in human lives, the dislocation of families, the destruction of communities and the loss of property exacted a toll that will never be forgotten. Although the state of Louisiana has endured an indescribable catastrophe, the people of Louisiana are committed to rebuild the state, better and stronger than before. We are grateful for the thousands of out-of-state volunteers who continue to come work alongside us in this effort. The work continues.
